Rising Sun Energy Services is a social enterprise run by Rising Sun Energy Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  Our enterprise provides energy efficient upgrade services to residents of Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin County.

The goal of Rising Sun Energy Services is to lower utility bills and make homes more comfortable, healthy, durable, and energy efficient while at the same time providing graduates from our GETS workforce training program with transitional employment.

Rising Sun Energy Services can provide highly subsidized retrofit services to home owners located in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin County. In addition if you are located in the City of Berkeley or the City of Richmond you may be eligible to receive further subsidies through a partnership between the City of Berkeley, the City of Richmond, and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

Richmond Residents:
If you are a Richmond resident, the City of Richmond will cover the first $5,000.00 worth of repairs to your home.  This means Richmond participants only pay for work if the total project cost is more than $5,000.00.

Berkeley Residents:
If you are a Berkeley resident, the amount of your subsidy and your “out of pocket” expense depends on the projected energy savings in your home, and the amount and type of work you receive.  If your projected energy savings are between 5%-19% you will receive approx. 50% in subsides, if your projected energy savings are above 19% you will receive up to 75% in subsides. The average out of pocket cost to you ranges from $500 - $4,500.

Residents located outside of the City of Richmond and the City of Berkeley within Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin County:
If you are a resident located outside of the City of Richmond or the City of Berkeley but within Alameda, Contra Costa, or Marin County you are eligible for subsides through PG&E.
Through a contract with Pacific Gas and Electric Company, you are eligible for heavily subsidized retrofit work on any or all of the measures below:

1. Attic Insulation
2. Wall Insulation
3. Duct sealing and insulating, with performance test
4. Pipe Wrap

Rising Sun Energy Services provides talented and qualified graduates of GETS (Green Jobs Training Services Program) with their first experience working in the green sector.  We are able to provide energy efficient upgrades at reduced rates because the Cities of Berkeley and Richmond and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) have provided funding to Rising Sun to help subsidize the cost of an energy efficient retrofit in order to achieve three goals: help green job graduates to begin their green careers, help homeowner’s lower their utility bills, and reduce CO2 emissions from the residential building sector.

Rising Sun Energy Services receives funding from:

1. The cities of Berkeley and Richmond, who are contributing money they were awarded from the American Recovery and Relief Act (the "stimulus bill"), because Rising Sun Energy Services will save energy and employ local residents within their cities.
2. The California Public Utilities Commission, through the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), provides funding via large subsidies based on energy saved. These subsidies reduce the final cost to the consumer.

The Rising Sun Energy Services social enterprise allows Rising Sun Energy Center to meet several goals simultaneously:

1. Provide Energy Upgrades to home-owners across Alameda, Contra Costa  and Marin County.
2. Assist local governments in reaching their Climate Action Plan (CAP) goals.
3. Provide GETS graduates with valuable green job work experience.
4. Increase the public's awareness of Building Performance and Energy Upgrading.

Rising Sun Energy Services provides energy upgrades to moderate-income homeowners in Berkeley and Richmond. There are no income restrictions for all other cities located in Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin County.

Rising Sun Energy Services will use building performance principles and techniques to provide its energy upgrades, including but not limited to:

1. Test-In/Test-Out ‘Energy Audit’
2. Energy Education, baseload analysis, bill analysis and explanation
3. Combustion Appliance Safety Check (NGAT) + CVA
4. C-10 Certification for attic and wall insulation
5. R30 - R38 attic insulation
6. R13 wall insulation
7. Crawlspace vapor barrier
8. Air sealing throughout your home
9. Furnace filter replacement
10. Duct sealing and insulating, with performance test
11. Pipe Wrap
12. Programmable thermostat
13. Retractable clothesline
14. Water Heater Blanket

Rising Sun Energy Services provides transitional employment and on-the-job experience to graduates of the GETS program. These non-exempt paid positions, will provide graduates with crucial field experience.
Lead by the Rising Sun Energy Services Director, a licensed general contractor the Rising Sun Energy Services team are responsible for day-to-day operations of the warehouse and office, and training/leading the crews through the energy audit and install process.
