Rising Sun, working in partnership with Solar Richmond and Berkeley City College, provides green job training for young adults ages 18 to 24 through its East Bay Green Job Corps program (EBGJC). The participants in this program receive the education, skills, training and support services necessary for a successful transition into technical training, community college, or entry-level employment.
The EBGJC program takes an integrated approach by providing wraparound educational and supportive services for participants. The program combines case management, with academic classes, job readiness training, and valuable work experience, providing free energy efficiency retrofits and solar marketing to residents in their communities.
Over the course of 16 weeks, EBGJC Participants spend each morning in Math, English, Eco-literacy, and Multimedia skills classes at Berkeley City College, earning 10.5 college credits. The afternoons are filled with life skills classes, technical training, and an internship experience at Rising Sun Energy Center and Solar Richmond. Throughout the program, East Bay Green Job Corps staff work with each participant to set goals and plan their next steps. The Case Manager then follows up with participants for up to a year to support them in reaching their goals.
